The White Sidewalls Rock n’ Roll Revue will appear at the Canby Theatre on Saturday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m.   This will be an evening of rock n’ roll, rockabilly and doo-wop music to help raise funds for a second digital projector for the Canby Theatre.

The White Sidewalls date back to 1971 when Pat Brown, also known as "Hound Dog," formed the group.  The band held their first rehearsals in Brown's kitchen in Forest Lake and quickly found gigs in small bars, ballrooms and at high school dances. By the summer of 1972, the band had a booking agent and started playing larger venues and better gigs. By 1978, they flew to their first big concert and dance in the Super Dome in New Orleans. In the late summer of 1979, they started a series of full summer shows at Valleyfair in Shakopee, which lasted about 10 years.
After a 20-year hiatus in which the White Sidewalls continued to perform without many of the original members, they reformed in 2007. While the band cycled through more than 40 members and musicians since its inception in 1971, two of its original members continue to perform: Brown, who plays guitar and is also the band's musical director, and Dave "Swanee" Swanson who plays sax and guitar.  The group was inducted in the Mid-America Music Hall of Fame in 2012.

Advance tickets for the event are available at Jim’s Market, Canby Drug & Gifts and at the Canby Theatre.

Gangsters in Minnesota Presentation Scheduled for November 1 in Canby
The Canby Arts Council, sponsored by the City of Canby, announces that Chad Lewis, Minnesota researcher, author and lecturer will give a presentation about “Gangsters in Minnesota” on November 1 at the Canby Theater, Canby, MN.

This special presentation is an opportunity for people to see what is happening at the Canby Theater and to learn more about some of America’s most infamous gangsters as they turned Minnesota into the land of 10,000 crimes.

Doors to the theater will open at 6:30 P.M. on Saturday, November 1.  People can enjoy some autumn appetizers and desserts while they look around the theater.  The presentation by Chad Lewis will begin at approximately 7:15 P.M.

There is no charge to attend this event, but free will donations above the speaker’s fee will be added to the theater renovation fund.
