The Canby Chamber of  Commerce met on February 12th at 5PM at P.K. Egans.  Meeting was called to order by President Diana Fliss.  Other members present were Pat Stanley, Belinda Evjen, Joyce Olson-Baer, Al Fordyce, Ron Fjerkenstad and Florene Dybsetter.  Mike Baer was also present.

We discussed several events that are going on at Mn West.  Snow week will be February 24 through March 1st.  It was decided that this event was pretty much in place and that the time frame was not in our favor of the Chamber to be part of this event.  We also felt that the Auto Extravaganza, to be held March 21st, was perhaps not something we would be involved in.  However, they will be having their “Taste of Nations” on April 24th and Diana will check with DeeDee Burlingame to see how we can be involved with this event.  We thought it would be a good place to have a booth and be present and perhaps do a raffle or some type of fundraiser for the Chamber.

The annual Community School Fair is scheduled for April 8th from 5 to 8PM.  We decided that this is an event that the Chamber enjoys doing.  We will have a table at the event.  We will work out a schedule of who will be there and when and what we will have to hand out.

Joyce is working on the coupons to be given out at Del Clark this Summer and also we felt they should be distributed at Lake Cochrane’s camping area.  Ron Fjerkanstad will contact the business’ that were represented on the coupons last year.

The Chamber has decided to make Chamber of Commerce buttons.  Board members at events that we sponsor will wear these buttons.  Then the public will know who we are and if there are questions or concerns, they can be directed at someone wearing a button.  Chris Grussing will be making the buttons and Joyce Olson-Baer has designed them.

Nothing to report on banners at this time.  We will be contacting organizations about the banners in the near future to find out who else would like to support this venture.

Dues letters have been sent out.  We discussed the Chambers finances and are hoping for a good response to our dues request.  A budget will be worked out for 2002 and ideas and suggestions will be discussed with the budget in mind.

Hat Daze was discussed again as it has been for several months.  After many months of thoughts and discussions a motion was made by Pat Stanley and seconded by Al Fordyce to discontinue Hat Daze and to focus our attention to a Winter event similar to the Arctic Blast and Plunge held at Del Clark in January.  The motion was voted on and carried.  Reasons that led the board to this decision was fewer people willing to help with Hat Daze, Father’s Day conflict with Family time, funding, competition with events in other towns during the same weekend as Hat Daze, and the recent success of the Arctic Blast and Polar Plunge.

We discussed the King of Trails, Highway 75 day to be held on May 4th.  Diana will contact Tourism and express our support for this event and we will find out how the Chamber can support this event.

Our next meeting will be held on March 12th at 5PM at the Canby VFW.  We encourage the public to attend.

Respectfully submitted,

Florene Dybsetter, Secretary/Treasurer
