The Canby Chamber of Commerce met on May 14th at 5PM at PK Egans. Members present were Diana Fliss, Pat Stanley, Ron Fjerkenstad, Chris Grussing and Florene Dybsetter. The meeting was called to order by President Diana Fliss. The Secretary and Treasurer’s report were given and approved. We discussed banners and we have been canvassing the businesses and will be ordering the banners the first week in June. We talked about the Taste of Nations and Pat and Ron felt it was a successful venture. We discussed ideas for our float. It was felt that we should keep it very simple. Diana was going to check with Coca-Cola and see if we could possibly use the Coca-Cola bear from Coke bottling in Marshall. We briefly discussed the duck races for depot daze. We will be doing them at the Canby Creek. We talked about a donation to the Yellow Medicine County Fair and Florene will talk to Bernie Miller about contributing towards an attraction or just a donation. We received two quotes for our insurance and it was decided that we would go with the insurance from Nemitz Agency. Diana will meet with Chris Nemitz and make sure that all the coverage is what we want and she will mail a letter to Southwest Insurance that we have declined their quote. Becky Hansen was wondering about help with insurance for Depot Daze. The Chamber will co-sponsor the parade and that way they will be covered under the Chamber’s policy. Florene will get the license for the parade trailer. The flower barrels will be put out by Gene Eilers and Dory from A New Leaf will be planting them and Bill Wiest will water them again this year. May 25th the Depot will be holding an Open House and fundraiser at the Depot. There will be an antique appraiser present and will charge $5.00 to do appraisals. Our next meeting will be on June 11th at 5:00PM at the Canby VFW.
Respectfully submitted,
Florene Dybsetter Secretary/Treasurer |
