The Canby Chamber of Commerce met on June 11^th at 5PM at the Canby VFW.  The meeting was called to order by President Diana Fliss.  Members present were Pat Stanley, Ron Fjerkenstad, Joyce Olson-Baer, Chris Grussing and Florene Dybsetter.  Mike Baer also was in attendance.  The Secretary and Treasurer’s report were given.

 

We discussed the status of the Banners that will be ordered for Canby.  Florene Dybsetter had talked to Chuck Downs and the banners will be ordered in June.  We have had a favorable response with 35 businesses buying banners.  After they are ordered Chris Grussing and Florene Dybsetter will canvas the city with Chris Husby and decide where the banners will be hung.  The delivery date should be approximately 4 weeks after they are ordered.  Hopefully they will be in place by August 1^st. 

 

We touched briefly on our 2002 budget vs. our expenses to date.  We will look at that more closely later.  It appears thus far that we have stayed within the budget of each category.

 

We decided to donate a $100.00 to the Yellow Medicine County Fair.  Florene will mail a check to Bernie Miller.  A motion was made by Pat and seconded by Ron to do this, motion was carried.  A check will be sent.

 

We discussed the Duck Races for Depot Daze.  Tickets will be sold at the Pork Producers supper and the ducks will be released at 7PM.  Winners will receive $25.00 for 1^st, $15.00 for 2^nd and $10.00 for 3^rd. 

 

We then discussed our float to advertise the Chamber’s upcoming “Arctic Blast – Polar Plunge” event to be held January 17 and 18.  Ron Fjerkenstad had some great ideas and it looks like the artwork and ideas will be handled by the committee. 

 

We decided that the Chamber’s parade supplies would be made available to the Depot Daze committee.  As long as they are returned.

 

The rest of the meeting was spent discussing the Arctic Blast event.  We have many wonderful ideas and we are organizing our thoughts and getting committees to set up and handle each event that we plan to have.

 

A motion was made and seconded and carried to adjourn the meeting.  Motion was carried.  Our next meeting will be on July 9^th at 5PM at DeToy’s.  We invite you to join us.
