The Chamber of Commerce met on September 17th, 2002 at the Canby VFW at 5 P.M. with the following board members present – Diana Fliss, Pat Stanley, Joyce Olson-Baer and Al Fordyce.  Also present was Mike Baer.

The secretary’s report was read and the financial reports were handed out.

Old Business:

  • We received no response from our letter to the Canby Police Dept about having a community meeting, so will assume there is no interest.

  • There has been no response to our letter to the editor regarding our need for additional board members.  Joyce indicated she may consider filling the secretary/treasurer roll after the Winter event.  Florene has indicated she will discontinue at that time.  The board discussed moving the computer and phone to the Depot (possibly) and having Joyce have set hours there.  She will think it over and let us know at the next meeting so we can talk to the Depot.  Also, Pat indicated he may stay on another year if we get no new members and that we may need to change our by-laws to allow for a lower number.

  • The banners are almost all hung – there are 8 remaining.  Only one has yet to be paid for.

  • October 5th will be the KT dedication.  The chamber will provide rolls and coffee in the morning and will do a ribbon cutting at 1 pm.

New Business:

  • The board decided not to do anything for Halloween this year and to concentrate on Christmas instead.

  • Joyce will begin working on the Christmas calendar.  Pat will talk to the Jaycee’s and Cheryl Flaa about lining up some movies.  Al will contact Otter Tail and see if they will again sponsor the lighting contest.  Diana spoke with Nick Nichter and he will play Santa again.  The Santa house will be held at the Depot.

·        The Arctic Blast was discussed.  The board decided to limit the number of activities and concentrate on making them a success.  See attached.
