Canby Chamber of Commerce meetingMarch 11th, 2003 – PK Egan’s
The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 5:00 PM on March 11th at PK Egans with the following board members present: Diana Fliss, Pat Stanley, Derrick Ruether, Angie Groenhoff and Jeff Harms. Also present were Ellie Beman, Gwen Dinius, Tara (Zoe) Bohms and Stacey Sik.Diana called the meeting to order and read the secretary’s report.Diana presented the treasurer’s report.A formal thank you was placed in the Canby News thanking Florene Dybsetter for her years of service to the Chamber and the communityDiana welcomed our new board members – Derrick, Angie and Jeff.The Taste of Nations was discussed again – This will be held on April 23rd. Pat will bring vegetarian chili and Ron will bring ???. Diana will contact Ron to find out what he’s making and let Dede Burlingame know.Diana presented a list of outstanding bills.· Canby News $78.56· Prairie Hub $37.00· A New Leaf $5.33A motion was made and seconded to pay the bills. The motion passed unanimously.The tax-free zoning issue was mentioned. More information to come at a later date.The community calendar was discussed again. This is a coordinated event with the Canby News. The board was again reminded to let the Chamber office know of any events to be placed on the calendar.We’ve received two parade request forms in the mail. We’ll need to determine whether we will participate in the area parades. We’ll discuss this more at the next meeting. Derrick will get price estimates on magnetic signs.Pat asked about putting on a Drug Awareness Presentation. At a recent safety meeting, Frontier had this presentation and it was quite informative. Jeff Harms will talk to Deb Peterson about having it at Minnesota West. Pat has spoken to Loren Hacker about having the public schools also co-sponsor. We would provide refreshments and a Yellow Medicine Deputy and a representative of the Drug task force would present. Pat will arrange the date and time.The board discussed having a 1st dollar of profit instead of a ribbon cutting for new businesses. It was the general consensus of the group to stay with the ribbon cuttings.Hat Daze was discussed. Updates were given by all present. We will again have a raffle. Diana will check into licensing and begin the contact process.Our next meeting will be April 8th at the Canby VFW at 5:00 PM.Diana FlissTemporary Secretary/Treasurer
