Canby Chamber of Commerce meetingApril 8th, 2003 – Canby VFW
The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 5:00 PM on April 8th at the Canby VFW with the following board members present: Diana Fliss, Pat Stanley, Derrick Ruether, Angie Groenhoff, Jeff Harms, Al Fordyce and Ron Fjerkenstad. Also present were Ellie Beman and Becky Hansen.
Diana called the meeting to order and read the secretary’s report.
Diana presented the treasurer’s report.
A reminder was made regarding the Taste of Nations, which will be held on April 23rd. Pat will bring vegetarian chili and Ron will bring pig candy.
Diana presented a list of outstanding bills. · Canby News $75.00 · Prairie Hub $27.50 · Frontier $41.14 · USPS – box rent $19.00 · Post Prom – donation · YMC Fair board - donation
A motion was made and seconded to pay the bills and give the Post Prom committee $50 in Canby Bucks and to donate $100 towards the YMC Fair. The motions passed unanimously.
We’ve now received four parade request forms in the mail. We’ll need to determine whether we will participate in the area parades. We’ll discuss this more at the next meeting. Derrick is in the process of getting price estimates/samples of magnetic signs.
The Drug Awareness Presentation will be held April 29th at Minnesota West in the student lounge. Posters were given to all present for distribution.
We again decided to do the flower barrels along the main streets. The Stone Hill Park “crew” offered to plant the flowers. We will order the plants from a New Leaf. Diana will arrange for the watering either from a non-profit group volunteering or Bill Wiest as in the past. Diana will also contact Gene Eilers about getting the barrels out.
Hat Daze was discussed. Updates were given by all present. We will hold a special meeting on April 21st at 5 pm at DeToy’s to finalize Hat Daze.
Our next regular meeting will be May 13th at the PK Egan’s at 5:00 PM.
