Canby Chamber of Commerce meetingAugust 19th, 2003 – DeToy’s
The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 5:00 PM on August 19 at DeToy’s with the following board members present: Diana Fliss, Pat Stanley, Derrick Ruether, Jeff Harms, Al Fordyce, Angie Groenhoff and Ron Fjerkenstad. Also present were Ellie Beman, Gwen Dinius, Loren Hacker, Eldeen Baer, Becky Hansen, Ruth Leppke and Deloris Keiffer.
Diana called the meeting to order and read the secretary’s report. Diana presented the treasurer’s report.

A motion was made and seconded to pay the bills. The motion passed unanimously.
A discussion was held regarding expiring board terms – Pat, Diana, Al and Ron’s terms will expire at our annual meeting in January. Pat, Diana and Al will not seek new terms. At this time Ron is undecided. We need to start thinking/recruiting individuals to serve on the board.
Crazy Daze was discussed – it was held on August 7th. The Chamber pays for the ads in the Marshall Independent and purchased ride tickets for the YMC Fair to be given away at participating businesses.
The Canby News has agreed to begin the treasurer duties effective 9/1/03 for $50.00 per month. A motion was made be Derrick, seconded by Angie and passed unanimously.
Becky Hansen asked that the Chamber contribute $150 towards a Sand Art contest to be held at Del Clark on the 31st of August. The $150 represents the money raised by the vendors in Central Park during Hat Daze. Al motioned, Jeff seconded to donate $150 in Canby Bucks for this event.
Highway 75 King of Trails will hold their 1st annual marketplace on Saturday, September 13th. Eldeen presented some information regarding this event. The Chamber will provide her with a list of the vendors from Hat Daze.
YMC is organizing a Relay for Life for September. Information was shared with the board.
The upcoming 3rd annual Arctic Blast was discussed. It will be held the weekend of January 16th and 17th, 2004. Items to be done for certain are: A chili cook-off on Friday the 16th in the back room of the VFW – Ellie Beman will organize this event. Arctic golf on Saturday the 17th beginning at 1 pm Polar Plunge on Saturday the 17th beginning at 4 pm Raffle
Other ideas included: Lawn art contest Northern lights contest Sled dog race – dogs on a sled – perhaps Student Council Scavenger Hunt Ice fishing contest The board will start thinking of other ideas and bring to our next meeting.
Canby will celebrate it’s 125th anniversary in 2004. An open forum type meeting will be held on Thursday, August 28th at City Hall – 7:30 pm to begin the organization process. Invitations were mailed to various groups in the community.
Our next regular meeting will be September 9th at PK Egan’s at 5:00 PM.
