Canby Chamber of Commerce meetingSeptember 1\9th, 2003 – PK Egan’s
The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 5:00 PM on September 9 at PK Egan’s with the following board members present: Diana Fliss, Al Fordyce and Ron Fjerkenstad. Also present were Ellie Beman, Loren Hacker and Barb Hoyhtya.
Diana called the meeting to order and read the secretary’s report. Diana presented the treasurer’s report.
Diana presented a list of bills to be approved as follows: · Canby News $75
We were unable to approve the bills as there wasn’t a quorum present.
The board discussed sponsoring an ad in Midwest Getaway. The board asked for a copy of the publication and circulation information. Diana will seek this for the next meeting.
The Kilowatt Community Center in Granite Falls is sponsoring a Walk-Fit program with Canby as one of the destinations. They would like us to provide “rewards” for those individuals who walk enough steps to reach Canby. Diana will contact them and indicate our interest and will put together some “reward” baskets.
The upcoming 3rd annual Arctic Blast was discussed. It will be held the weekend of January 24th and 25th, 2004. Items to be done for certain are: A chili cook-off on Friday the 16th in the back room of the VFW – Ellie Beman will organize this event. Arctic golf on Saturday the 17th beginning at 1 pm Polar Plunge on Saturday the 17th beginning at 4 pm Fishing Contest Sled Dog Races – Loren will talk to the City council Lawn Art Contest Kid’s Games with Phil Baker on Saturday
We will hold our 2nd meeting regarding Canby’s 125th anniversary in 2004 on Thursday, September 11th at City Hall – 7:30 pm.
Barb Hoyhtya provided information on the Western Minnesota Prairie Waters group and the City’s desire to contribute towards it. A discussion was held regarding the effectiveness of the advertising. Barb will share our concerns with the Council.
Our next regular meeting will be October 7th at the Canby VFW at 5:00 PM.
