Canby Chamber of Commerce meeting

October 7th, 2003 – Canby VFW

 

The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 5:00 PM on October 7th at PK Egan’s with the following board members present:  Diana Fliss, Pat Stanley, Al Fordyce, Ron Fjerkenstad and Angie Groenoff.  Also present were Ellie Beman, Don Beman, Becky Hansen, Joyce Olson-Baer and Mike Baer.

 

Diana called the meeting to order and read the secretary’s report.

Diana presented the treasurer’s report.

 

Diana presented a list of bills to be approved as follows:

·        Canby News $75

·        USPS $19.50

·        Prairie Hub $37.50

·        ASCAP $50

·        Frontier $43.07

·        Bill Wiest $300

A motion was made by Al and seconded by Angie to approve the bills as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Arctic Blast was discussed and events were reviewed.  Diana will contact the Jaycee’s about having roller-skating that Friday evening and Loren Hacker about the sled-dog races.  Plans also need to be finalized for the lawn art contest.

 

The board discussed potential candidates for the board to replace Al, Diana and Pat.  We still need to work on this.  We have a couple of possibilities, but no commitments at this time.

 

Joyce Olson-Baer was present to discuss the Christmas Calendar.  The board agreed that we should move ahead with this project as in the past.

 

Hat Daze – Canby’s 125th birthday celebration was discussed.  One of the fundraisers is a bake sale to be held during the Hospital Auxiliary bazaar on November 1st.  Each board member should bring goodies to room 148 at the Canby Elementary School by 7 pm on Friday, October 31st.  Diana also brought up the need to designate some funds for the celebration next year.  After some discussion, Pat motioned, Ron seconded to set aside $1500 to be used for the celebration.  Motion carried unanimously.  This money may be returned dependent upon the results of the fundraising.

 

The broadband project was discussed.  Diana sent a letter of support for the grant application.  We have been asked to commit to $250 in cash towards the project if Canby is selected.  Motion by Al and seconded by Ron was to commit the $250 if selected.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Our next regular meeting will be November 11th at the DeToy’s at 5:00 PM.
