Canby Chamber of Commerce meeting

December 9th, 2003 – Canby VFW

 

The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 5:00 PM on December 9th at the Canby VFW with the following board members present:  Pat Stanley, Ron Fjerkenstad, Jeff Harms and Derrick Ruether.  Also present were Don Beman, Larry Duis and Kelli Palmquist.

 

Pat called the meeting to order and presented the secretary’s report.

Don presented the treasurer’s report.

 

Arctic Blast was discussed and events were reviewed.  Ron indicated there would be a $5 charge per carload to enter the park during the event.  Kelli Palmquist volunteered to donate some paper products for the event.

 

The board discussed potential board candidates.   Kelli Palmquist volunteered to serve on the board beginning in 2004.  The board will continue to contact and recruit potential new board members.

 

Christmas events are underway and the lighting contest is in progress.

 

The upcoming annual meeting was discussed.  It was determined to hold the annual meeting at 6 pm on Friday, January 23^rd (prior to the Chili Cook-off) at the Canby VFW.  Larry Duis motioned and Jeff Harms seconded to have the Chamber provide a meat and cheese and a vegetable tray.  It carried unanimously.  Don will send businesses a notice one week prior to the meeting.

 

Hat Daze – Canby’s 125^th birthday celebration fund raising was discussed.  The alumni basketball event brought in almost $700.  We have also sold 20 quilts and have received 4 sponsorship letters back thus far.  It was determined to allow mail orders but it is necessary to indicate on the order form for the quilt/trivets that due to the special order/custom made nature of these items, there will be no refunds or returns.

 

There will be a ribbon cutting for the new State Farm agent – Kelli Palmquist on December 18^th at 4 pm.

 

Jeff Harms reported that the college had approximately 250 people at the Holiday Mixer.

 

There was a discussion held regarding using local food vendors for any fundraisers instead of seeking vendors from outside our community.  We will draft a letter for the paper to ask those local food vendors interested in being contacted for such events to let us know who they are.

 

Our next regular meeting will be January 13th at DeToy’s at 5:00 PM.
