Canby Chamber of Commerce Meeting

June 8, 2004 – Canby VFW

 

1)     Attendees: The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 5:00 pm on June 8th at the Canby VFW with the following board members present: Kelli Palmquist and Derrick Ruether.  Also present were Jeff Harms, Don and Ellie Beman, Pat Stanley, Diana Fliss, Loren Hacker, John Thelen, Ruth Lepke, and Eldeen Baer.

2)     Reports: Derrick called the meeting to order. Kelli presented the Secretary’s report.  Don presented the Treasurer’s report. Attendees approved both the Secretary’s and Treasurer’s report.

 

3)     City Flower Baskets (old business): Flower baskets have been set up around the city. Derrick contacted Ron Fjerkenstad to let him know the pots are ready to plant the flowers.

 

4)     Parades (old business):  Ron Fjerkenstad is driving his flag car representing the Canby Chamber of Commerce in the Clarkfield/Boyd parade tomorrow, 6/9.  Participation in the Big Stone parade on 8/22 is tabled until the July Chamber of Commerce meeting.  RSVP is not required for this parade until 7/21.  Other potential parades discussed were Riverfest in Dawson (6/25) and Summerfest in Madison (7/4).

 

5)     City Brochure (old business): The group present at the meeting all agreed a new; color information/tourism brochure for the city of Canby is needed. Due to resource and time limitations, planning for these brochures will start after the 125th Anniversary celebration.  Diana Fliss is calling the Canby Print shop to get a rough estimate of the cost for the brochures.

6)     Bike Rodeo (old business) The Bike Rodeo hosted by the Connection will not be held during Hat Daze this year. The Canby Chamber is waiting to hear from Connection representatives when this will be rescheduled.

7)     125th Celebration Final Planning –Diana Fliss reviewed with the group what the remaining areas were that need volunteers to sell 125th Celebration souvenirs (Fly-in Breakfast-6/20, Before Talent Show.  -6/18, Raffle after Parade-6/19, Central Park-6/19). Jeff Harms volunteered to sell these from 6:15-7:15 before the Variety Show on Friday, 6/18.  Ruth Lepke volunteered to help with the Fly-in Breakfast on 6/20. Kelli Palmquist and Derrick Ruether will be available throughout Saturday to help Diana with sales in Central Park. Board members will be present at the Lake Sylvan Fountain kick-off on Thursday, 6/17 at 7:00 pm sponsored by the Canby Rotary.

8)     Crazy Daze – The Canby Chamber of Commerce supports this event by funding outside advertising. Derrick is asking Myrna Tesch at Runnings for the date this event will be held.

9)     KT “King of Trails” Marketplace – Eldeen Baer thanked the Canby Chamber for their donation of $25 towards the KT Marketplace (Sept. 11, 2004).  Ellie requested Eldeen provide a marketplace registration form be created to run in the Canby News.  Eldeen requested a ribbon cutting for the Hwy 75 Scenic Byway designation – date is pending. Lastly, Eldeen requested a possible Crazy Daze be held the same day as the KT Marketplace (Sept. 11, 2004). The Board recommended that Eldeen speak to merchants such as Duebers and Runnings to make sure that date will work with their business plan/sales schedule.

10)  Artic Blast – 2005 – Planning for the 2005 Artic Blast event will begin at the next Canby Chamber of Commerce meeting in July. Events to plan that were in addition to this year are Artic Golf at the Canby Golfcourse and an Adult Fishing contest possibly sponsored by the Sportsman Club.

11) Canby ChamberTrailer – Pat Stanley asked if he could purchase the trailer owned by the Canby Chamber for $300. This trailer was purchased 3 years ago to be used in parades, etc. but has never been used. The Board did not anticipate an event in which the Canby Chamber would use this trailer. Kelli Palmquist made a motion to sell the trailer to Pat Stanley for $300. Loren Hacker seconded the motion.
