Attendees approved both the Secretary and Treasurer reports.
3) Parades (old business): Derrick is talking to Ron Fjerkenstad regarding the Big Stone parade on 8/22 in Ortonville. Need to RSVP by 7/31.
4) City Brochure (old business): The group present at the June Canby Chamber of Commerce meeting all agreed a new, color information/tourism brochure for the City of Canby is needed. Diana Fliss received estimates from Canby Print Shop. Prices and quantities vary. For example, 1000 brochures “camera ready” would cost approximately $540. There needs to be a group or person to actually design the brochure including content and photos. Derrick is following up with Barbara – the City Administrator to determine what the best group or person for this job. 5) Bike Rodeo (old business): CORRECTION FROM JUNE MINUTES: The Bike Rodeo co-hosted by the Canby Police Department and the Connection was not be held during Hat Daze this year. The Canby Chamber is waiting to hear from the host representatives as to when this will be scheduled. 6) 125th Celebration/Hat Daze Recap (old business): Diana Fliss reviewed with the group the tentative financial report from the celebration. There are outstanding bills to be received. The finalized financial report will be available during the August Chamber meeting. The committee felt the celebration overall was a success! Diana proposed that a committee be designated to coordinate the activities – for example Hat Daze and Arctic Blast. This would allow the Chamber Board to focus on general chamber business. Diana is working on an initial budget. She estimates the annual budget to be $5,000. Kelli made a motion to approve the creation of this committee and preliminary budget. Jeff Harms seconded the motion. Pat asked if there was going to be a “wrap-up” party for all of the volunteers involved in the 125th. This has been done in the past. The group agreed that this will be planned for next year. 7) Crazy Daze (old business): The Canby Chamber of Commerce supports this event by funding outside advertising. The Canby Crazy Daze will be held on Thurs, August 5th. Ellie suggested the Canby Chamber sponsor a tent to sit on the lot next to the Post Office that would house other goods for sale from businesses in Canby that are not directly on main street. The group present agreed this was a good idea. Ellie is sending a letter to all applicable businesses to determine interest in participating. 8) Canby Welcome Wagon Volunteer (old business): Derrick received a call from Midge Victor volunteering to take over the Canby Welcome Wagon. The group approved this change. 9) High Prairie Sporting Clay Business Ribbon Cutting: Kelli is contacting Roger Johnson to schedule a ribbon cutting for this new business. 10) Canby 125th Float Storage: The float is currently being stored at the old water plant. There needs to be a permanent place to store this float. Several parts of the float can be reused for future floats, etc. Kelli is contacting Louie Sherlin of Yellow Medicine County to see if such a place exists. 11) Next Meeting: Tues, August 10th , 5:00 pm at PK Egans
