Canby Chamber of Commerce Meeting August 10, 2004 – PK Egans
1) Attendees: The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 5:00 pm on August 10th at PK Egan’s with the following board members present: Kelli Palmquist, Jeff Harms, Angie Groenhoff and Derrick Ruether. Also present were Don & Ellie Beman, Eldeen Baer, Barbara Hoyhtya, Pat Stanley, and Diana Fliss. 2) Reports: Derrick called the meeting to order. Kelli presented the Secretary’s report. Don presented the Treasurer’s report. Attendees approved both the Secretary and Treasurer reports.
3) Parades (old business): Ron is unable to make it to the Big Stone parade on August 22nd. The Canby Chamber of Commerce has offered the Canby queen/princesses the Chamber float to use at parades they are attending. Diana volunteered to contact all communities that have invited Canby to take part in their parades this year to confirm parade dates for next year. This will allow the Chamber to have a list of the parades before the summer parade season begins.
4) Canby City Tourism Brochure (old business): Barb Hoyhtya has asked that volunteers/representatives from the Canby Chamber, the Mecca, and the Depot meet to discuss tourism in Canby. In addition to discussing the development of a new City Brochure/Guide, items that also need to be discussed include Canby tourism advertising dollars spent by each group, available funds for advertising and free advertising. Pat Stanley and Kelli Palmquist volunteered to attend from the Chamber. The meeting will be on Tues, August 17th at 7:00 pm at the Canby City Hall. 5) Bike Rodeo (old business): The Canby Chamber has not heard when the Bike Rodeo will be scheduled. 6) 125th Celebration/Hat Daze Recap (old business): Diana Fliss reviewed with the group the estimated final financial report from the celebration. There are a few outstanding bills to be received. Diana confirmed that the beginning budget needed for the new Activities committee will be $5000. This will come from the 125th Celebration profit. The initial budget needed for Arctic Blast is estimated to be $1500. The Activities committee is planning to sell Canby Historic Christmas Balls to fundraise for the Artic Blast budget. This has been a successful fundraiser for Canby, Oregon in the past. The price, sale locations, and sale dates for these collectibles are still being determined. Don is running an article relating to this fundraiser in the Canby News soon. Artic Blast is scheduled for Fri, Jan. 28th & Sat, 29th, 2005. 7) Crazy Daze (old business): Crazy Daze was held on Thurs, August 5th. Ellie contacted businesses not directly on Main Street to see who was interested in selling their goods in a tent sponsored by the Canby Chamber. She did not receive enough interested parties. 8) High Prairie Sporting Clay Business Ribbon Cutting (old business): Kelli contacted Roger Johnson to schedule a ribbon cutting for this new business. Roger would like to wait until this fall and will let a member of the Chamber know when he is certain of a date. 9) Canby 125th Float Storage (old business): Kelli contacted Louie Sherlin of Yellow Medicine County. There is room to store the float at the fairgrounds. He requested to wait until the fair is over. Kelli plans to contact Louie after the fair to confirm a storage location.
10) KT Marketplace/Hwy 75 Scenic Byway Update (new business): Eldeen Baer attended the meeting to give an update on this upcoming event. There will be new brochures produced next year that lists all the cities on Hwy 75 including Canby. She asked the Chamber for help in promoting the upcoming Sept. 11th KT Markeplace in Canby. There already is a link on the Canby Chamber of Commerce website linking to this event. She distributed posters to hang in local businesses. Also, Eldeen requested a volunteer to attend the promotion to promote Canby. This will be held near Moorhead, MN on Aug. 24th. Unfortunately, this date did not work for anyone’s schedules.
11) Next Meeting: Tues, Sept 14th, 5:00 pm at VFW
