Canby Chamber of Commerce Meeting

September 14, 2004 – Canby VFW

 

1)     Attendees: The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 5:00 pm on September 14th at the Canby VFW with the following board members present: Kelli Palmquist, Pat Stanley, Don Beman and Derrick Ruether.  Also present were Ellie Beman, Eldeen Baer, Barbara Hoyhtya, Bob Wandersee and Loren Hacker.

2)     Reports: Derrick called the meeting to order. Kelli presented the Secretary’s report.  Don presented the Treasurer’s report. Attendees approved both the Secretary and Treasurer reports.

 

3)     Canby City Tourism Brochure (old business): This group is working on revising current city brochures to be completed as soon as possible.

4)     Canby 125th Float Storage (old business): Kelli is contacting Louie to confirm a storage location for this float on the Yellow Medicine County Fair grounds.

 

5)     City Flower Baskets (old business): Barb recommended leaving these baskets out as long as they are in good shape. The group agreed.

 

6)     KT Marketplace/Hwy 75 Scenic Byway Update (old business): Eldeen Baer reported on the Marketplace event held on Sept. 11th, 2004. The event went great. Over 30 vendors attended. She thanked the Canby Chamber of Commerce for their support.

 

7)     New Board Member (new business): Wendy Rouse had planned to attend this meeting as potential new board member. She was unable to attend. Derrick is contacting Wendy to invite her to the next board meeting.

 

8)     Canby Events Committee (new business): Pat discussed the upcoming planning of the Canby Events Calendar and specifically the Christmas Calendar/Table Top Events. The group also discussed fundraising ideas over the holidays such as Canby Buck drawings, Turkey drawings, etc. Possible promotion would be radio advertising on Madison radio. Ellie is bringing all of these ideas to the Events group next meeting which is Weds, 9/15/04.

 

9)     Going Away Party for the Troops – The Canby VFW & Chamber of Commerce are hosting a going away party for the troops at the Canby VFW on Sunday, Sept. 26th from 1-3:00 pm. Bob Wandersee has invited Jeff Cooper to attend and say a “good-bye” prayer. In addition, Bob is going to discuss the assistance available for those families/spouses that are directly impacted by this departure.  Kelli made a motion for the Canby Chamber of Commerce to provide the food at the party. Loren seconded the motion.

 

10)  Canby City Donation – Barb notified the group that due to budget changes in the latest City Budget meeting, the Canby City will be donating $1500 a year to the Canby Chamber of Commerce vs. $3000 last year.

 

11)  Community Chest – Loren wondered who is responsible for the Community Chest. It has changed ownership several times over the years and is not the responsibility of the Chamber.

 

12) Canby Homecoming This is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 1st. The Chamber will be having the Canby Queen involved in the parade.

 

13)  Next Meeting: Tues, Oct 12th, 5:00 pm at Detoys
