Canby Chamber of Commerce Meeting

November 9, 2004 – PK Egans

 

1)     Attendees: The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 5:00 pm on November 9th at PK Egans with the following board members present: Kelli Palmquist, Pat Stanley, Don Beman, and Jeff Harms.  Also present were Ellie Beman, Jan Pederson, and Loren Hacker.

2)     Reports: Pat called the meeting to order. Kelli presented the Secretary’s report.  Don presented the Treasurer’s report. Attendees approved both the Secretary and Treasurer reports. 

Old Business

3)     Correction to 10/12 Minutes-Chamber Annual Meeting: Jeff Harms was checking on if the Chamber Annual meeting would be held at the Minnesota Southwest Technical & Community College NOT SW campus.

4)     Canby City Tourism Brochure: The brochures are still being proofed for finalization.

5)     Canby 125th Float Storage: Pat Stanley said that the current location is sufficient to store the float.

6)     Canby Chamber Annual Meeting: Group decided that the Canby Chamber of Commerce meeting will be tentatively be held on Sat, March 19th, 2005. Event will be a sit-down dinner with also a Community Recognition event where other service groups in the community can present community members with service awards. The details of “master of ceremonies”, location, and time are still being determined.

New Business

 

7)     Canby Events Committee:

 

·        Christmas Planning/Activities – Christmas calendar is almost complete. The group may need to find a Santa replacement.  Santa’s house will be located in Ron Wicklace’s outside office in the PK Egan’s building and will be decorating it prior to the holiday preview.  Dated Christmas balls depicting the Lund-Hoel house have been ordered and are available at the Chamber office for $8.00.

·        Artic Blast – The following events are some of the events that are planned to take place during this weekend celebration (Fri, 1/28 & Sat, 1/29). 

o       Friday events include: Chili Cook-off/Dance at Canby VFW (6:00 pm);

o       Saturday events include: Canby Rotary Wrestling Tournament, Court-wist party sponsored by Women’s Federated Group, Kid’s ice fishing derby, Polar Plunge, Pinochle tournament, free matinee at Canby Theatre, Snow Sculpture Contest, Medallion hut, “Miss Tootsie/Artic Anne contest and northern lighting contest.

·        Hat Daze – 2005 – Planning is underway! The goal is to have one “new” thing different each year.

 

8)     New Canby Chamber Board Members – Recruit, Recruit, Recruit!! New board members are needed! Jan Pederson has joined the board. In addition, Kelli is recruiting members of her team potentially to join the board. Jeff Harms, Angie Groenhoff, and Derrick Ruether’s terms all expire the start of 2005. Kelli Palmquist and Ron Fjerkenstad’s term extend to the start of 2006.  Additional board members are still welcomed!

 

9)     Ribbon Cuttings: The ribbon cutting for High Prairie Sporting Clays site is pended. We are still waiting to hear from Roger Johnson. Once James Yackley from Prairie Sound Hearing has a location, we would like to schedule a ribbon cutting for his business.

 

10)  Christmas 2005 – Tree Decorating Contest – Dawson Chamber sponsors a tree decorating/lighting contest for all the local businesses. This would be a great event for next year!

 

11)  Next Meeting: Tues, Dec. 14th, 5:00 pm at  the Canby VFW
