Canby Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting

February 9, 2005 – PK Egans

 

1)     Attendees: The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 12:00 pm on February 9th at PK Egans with the following board members present: Pat Stanley, Don Beman, Ron Fjerkenstad and Amy Newcomb (new member). Also present were Ellie Beman, Sabrina Stockman, Wes & Barb Hoyhtya,  Terry Overlander, Mark Greenway, Al Livermore, Rod Hansen, Mary Kewill, a representative from Frontier Communications and guest speakers, Doug Waltz, Spud & Jenny Nelson – New Owners of the Canby Speedway.

2)     Reports: Pat called the meeting to order. The Secretary’s report was passed around to all attendees.  Don presented the Treasurer’s report. Attendees approved both the Secretary and Treasurer reports. 

Old Business

3)     Canby Chamber Annual Meeting: Date & Time are TBD

4)     Canby Chamber Board Member Status: Jeff Harms, Angie Groenhoff, and Derrick Ruether’s terms are up at the start of 2005. Ron Fjerkenstad and Kelli Palmquist are on until 2006.  Jan Pederson joined in Fall 2004. The Chamber Board needs 3 more board members. Wendy Rouse expressed interest in 2004. Kelli is following up with Wendy. Pat is following up with Sioux Valley Hospital to see if there are any employees interested in participating.  Amy Newcomb from State Farm Insurance has joined the board. Sabrina Stockman from State Farm Insurance is also considering joining the board.

 

5)     Canby Events Committee:

 

·        Arctic Blast Recap – The event was a success! There will be a rap-up on Thursday – 2/10 at 4 pm at City Hall.

 

New Business

 

6)     Future Speakers –March – Representative from the Workforce Center in Marshall, April- & subsequent months – TBD. To be further discussed during March Chamber Meeting.

 

7)     Dues Letters – Dues letters have been sent.

 

8)     Holiday Banners -   There will be an inventory of holiday banners to see what needs to be replaced.  Barbara Hoyhtya will work on a schedule in getting those up.

 

9)     Upcoming Ribbon Cuttings - Ribbon cutting at "Quilting by Bonnie" will be by March 1^st.  Ribbon cutting for the Canby Speedway will be the first night of races, May 21st.

 

 

10) Guest Speakers-Doug Waltz & Spud/Jenny Nelson – New Owners of the Canby Speedway. Annual racing event calendar was distributed.  The calendar was approved by the attendees – Mark Greenway made the motion to approve, Ron Fjerkenstad seconded the motion.

 

11)  Yellow Medicine County Fair - The Yellow Medicine Fair will be July 22st weekend.

 

12)  Next Meeting: Weds, Mar 9^th at Noon – PK Egans
