Canby Chamber of Commerce Meeting July 13th, 2005 – PK Egans
1) Attendees: The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 12:00 pm on July 13th at PK Egans with the following board members present: Pat Stanley, Don Beman, Laurie Driessen, Amy Newcomb, and Sabrina Stockman. Also present were Ellie Beman, Deb Petersen, Terry Overlander, Loren Hacker, Jeff Grengs, Katie Delaney, and Heidi Heckenlaible from MN West Foundation. 2) Reports: Pat called the meeting to order. The Secretary’s report was passed around to all attendees. Don presented the Treasurer’s report. Attendees approved both the Secretary and Treasurer reports. Old Business 3) Ribbon Cuttings To Be Scheduled: The following ribbon cuttings need to be scheduled: Bohms Auto Glass, Funeral Home, CAS Plumbing, and Sunset Assisted Living. 4) Hat Daze Recap – Thank you to all involved. It was a very successful Hat Daze. Discussed future additions and changes: Flea Market in the park, more activities, Skateboard Event, Dunk Tank, improving the scheduling of Stock Tank Races, and developing rules for activities in the park. Please forward all ideas to the activities committee. 5) Battery B Fundraiser- Held July 2nd at Canby VFW (net $372.05). VFW offered a Steak Fry Night for fundraiser in October. 6) Student Welcome at Minnesota West with Rotary- Fanfare for the students August 24th. They have developed a Student Activity Fund and the Chamber is donating $200.00 towards this Fund. 7) Outstanding Citizen/Hall of Fame- Laurie Driessen from the Chamber volunteered to be on the committee as well as Charleen Wallert from the City. Loren Hacker or David Frank will be representing the Rotary. Committee needs to develop criteria and timeline for nominations and choosing a recipient. Outstanding Citizen award will be presented at the Annual Meeting after Arctic Blast. 8) How Do We Get Main Street Businesses More Involved?- Board discussion among attendees.
New Business
9) Future Speakers –Meth/National Night Out-DEA Agent from the Twin Cities-August 2nd, Shiela Dressman-Pork Board Spearker’s Bureau-September, Luanne Fondell-Dawson-Boyd Arts Association-October. No speaker in November-will be discussing Holiday Preview.
10) Parade Requests – Ortonville-August 21st and Homecoming (Is there going to be a parade?)
11) Activities Committee – Diana has resigned, need replacement.
12) Crazy Days – August 4th (first Thursday in August), Chamber will be taking out a full page ad for all businesses to participate and advertise.
13) Arctic Blast – activities committee will need to start on this along with Christmas Activities.
14) Guest Speaker-Heidi Heckenlaible-Director of MN West Foundation – Heidi discussed the MN West Foundation’s mission.
15) Next Meeting: August 2nd, 2005 at noon at PK Egan’s-*Note Date.* This will be a joint Chamber/Rotary meeting.
