Canby Chamber of Commerce Meeting November 9, 2005 – PK Egans
1) Attendees: The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 12:00 pm on November 9th at PK Egans with the following board members present: Pat Stanley, Don Beman, Laurie Driessen, Amy Newcomb, and Kelli Palmquist. Also present were Cheryl Ferguson, Chris Grussing, Ellie Beman, Sabrina Stockman, Joy Brakke, Karen Houtman, Angie Theisen, Jean Wollum, Barb & Wes Hoyhtya, Bonnie Longtin, and Kris Cleveland. 2) Reports: Pat called the meeting to order. The Secretary’s report was passed around to all attendees. Kelli presented the Secretary’s reports. Don presented the Treasurer’s report. Attendees approved both the Secretary and Treasurer reports. Secretary’s report will be e-mailed to all attendees on distribution list 1 week prior to the meeting for prior approval. Old Business 3) Outstanding Citizen/Hall of Fame/Chamber Annual Meeting– Need to set Date in 2006 for this event. Waiting for Loren Hacker to check school activities calendar. Will be in March-exact date-TBD. The attendees approved Laurie and the other volunteers on her committee that organized the “Outstanding Citizen” nomination program as judges to choose final winner. 4) Activities Committee Update – Barb presented an update on Christmas 2005 & Artic Blast 2006. Christmas – All events are scheduled and on Activities calendar. Will be published in the newspaper as well. Still need Santa for 12/8. Artic Blast-Most events are scheduled. Some new events-Bowling sponsored by Chamber from 2-4 on Sat, 1/28, Loren Hacker is looking into Snow Sculpture contest, and quilt raffle. Storefronts can also take part in the local decorating contest-theme are blue/white lights and polar bears. Winning business wins a pizza party for all employees of business. 5) Hospital Bazaar Recap- Exact Sale numbers of Canby Chamber products can be found by contacting either Don or Ellie Beman. 6) Daycare Provider Recognition – Chamber will work with the Sept “Daycare of the Month” event sponsored by the county to recognize the selected daycare provider in that specific year. In addition, only the local daycares that pay Chamber dues will be individually recognized by the Chamber (e.g. ribbon cuttings). 7) City Flower Pots – These must be taken down by 11/11 per Barb. 8) Airport Update – The Grand Opening will be in Spring 2006- exact date TBD.
New Business
9) Future Speakers –-December-SVCC-Cheryl Ferguson is lining up speaker; January/February – TBD – Jim Nichols-Wind Energy – align this event with Rotary and possibly open to the public as an evening event. Karen Houtman from the Connection can present either Jan or Feb depending upon Jim’s availability.
10) Upcoming Ribbon Cuttings – Sunset Assisted Living, Deputy Registrar-TBD; Kris Cleveland-letting us know of an exact date
11) Guard Return Event – Pat recommended the Chamber sponsoring a “Welcome Back” party for the local soldiers returning from Iraq – held at the VFW. The attendees approved this as a Chamber sponsored event. Date-TBD.
12) City Banners – Barb reported the blue ones are being taken down for the red, holiday banners to go up. The Chamber will then take an inventory of new banners needed to replace missing and damaged blue banners. Also, need to look in replacing holiday banners as well.
13) Guest Speakers-Kris Cleveland-Big Stone Therapies-Canby Clinic – Kris presented the various services that Big Stone Therapies offer. In addition, she reviewed the history of this business, its owners, and locations through Minnesota.
14) Next Meeting: Weds, December 14th at Noon – PK Egans
