Canby Chamber of Commerce Meeting December 14, 2005 – PK Egans
1) Attendees: The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 12:00 pm on December 14th at PK Egans with the following board members present: Pat Stanley, Don Beman, Laurie Driessen, Amy Newcomb, and Kelli Palmquist. Also present were Cheryl Ferguson, Chris Grussing, Ellie Beman, Sabrina Stockman, Karen Houtman, Barb Hoyhtya, Kris Cleveland, Nancy Salmon, Derrick Ruether, Sherri Kern, Terry Overlander, Jessica Sik, and Erin Hoffman. 2) Reports: Pat called the meeting to order. Kelli sent the minutes to all active attendees on Mon, 12/12 for review. These minutes were also passed around to all attendees at this meeting. Don presented the Treasurer report. Attendees approved both the Secretary and Treasurer reports. Secretary’s report will continue to be e-mailed to all attendees on the e-mail distribution list one week prior to the meeting for approval, changes, etc. Anyone interested on being on this list must submit their e-mail address to Kelli Palmquist. Old Business 3) Outstanding Citizen/Hall of Fame/Chamber Annual Meeting– Need to set Date in 2006 for this event. Kelli is contacting Loren Hacker to confirm date & school activities calendar. Will be in March-exact date-TBD. Laurie reported that the ad stating the award criteria will be run in the paper the week after Christmas. 4) Activities Committee Update – Barb presented an update on Christmas 2005 & Artic Blast 2006. Christmas – All events are going on as scheduled. Artic Blast-Most events are scheduled. Some new events scheduled for Sunday (1/29/06) of Artic Blast Weekend include Roger Johnson at High Prairie Sports Clay and a Snowmobile Run sponsored by Doug & Dave Verhelst. More details to follow regarding these events. The next Activities Committee meeting is Thurs, January 5th at 5:00-Community Center. 5) National Guard – “Welcome Home” Event – Scheduled for Fri, 12/16 from 5-8:00 at the Canby VFW. This is sponsored by the Canby Chamber of Commerce.
New Business
6) Future Speakers – January- Karen Houtman-Connection; February/March – TBD – Jim Nichols-Wind Energy – align this event with Rotary and possibly open to the public as an evening event.
7) Upcoming Ribbon Cuttings – The ribbon cutting for Sherri Kern from Deputy Registrar was held today; Sunset Assisted Living – Spring 2006
8) Advertising/Communications Committee – Barb & Pat both suggested that a separate committee should be established to handle all Community activity advertising, etc. This group would be the point of contact for all annual events and would be responsible for setting up advertising for these events. In addition, Barb showed us a monthly newsletter used in Clear Lake, SD. The group agreed this is a great idea and that this would be a task implemented within this group. Volunteers are encouraged! Members of this group so far are Sabrina Stockman, Cheryl Ferguson, Laurie Driessen, Kelli Palmquist, Ellie Beman and Amy Newcomb. Their first meeting will be scheduled after the New Year. Kelli is confirming with the group on the exact date.
9) Tom Watson-Southwest Tourism Group-Barb reported that the SW Tourism group is asking the City of Canby to donate $3500 towards the Tourism group. Barb asked if the Canby Chamber would consider donating part of these funds. Pat said this would need to be discussed and approved at the 2006 Annual Chamber meeting.
10) Guest Speakers-Nancy Solman & Cheryl Ferguson – Nancy & Cheryl presented various storyboards they presented at a health convention; some of these won awards. These storyboards include information on programs offered or held by SVCC. Some examples include Advanced Directive Seminar, Diabetes Dilemma, Culture Change-Senior Have, “There’s No Place Like Home”, and much more.
11) Next Meeting: Weds, Janurary 11th at Noon – PK Egans (potential visit to Connection after)
