Canby Chamber of Commerce Meeting

January 11th – PK Egans

 

1)     Attendees: The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 12:00 pm on January 11th            at PK Egans with the following board members present: Pat Stanley, Don Beman, Laurie Driessen, Derrick Ruether and Kelli Palmquist. Also present were Cheryl Ferguson, Chris Grussing, Ellie Beman, Karen Houtman, Bonnie Longtin, and Terry Overlander.

2)     Reports: Pat called the meeting to order. Kelli sent the minutes to all active attendees on Mon, 12/12 for review. These minutes were also passed around to all attendees at this meeting.  Don presented the Treasurer report. Attendees approved both the Secretary and Treasurer reports.  Secretary’s report will continue to be e-mailed to all attendees on the e-mail distribution list one week prior to the meeting for approval, changes, etc. Anyone interested on being on this list must submit their e-mail address to Kelli Palmquist.

Old Business

3)     Outstanding Citizen/Hall of Fame/Chamber Annual Meeting– Need to set Date in 2006 for this event.  Kelli is waiting to hear from Loren Hacker to confirm date & school activities calendar. Laurie is checking with Loren Hacker. Will be in March-exact date-TBD.  Laurie reported that the nominations are due to the Chamber by Feb. 10th. Canby Chamber will be recognizing two people at this event.

4)     Activities Committee Update – Ellie updated everyone on Artic Blast. Table tents are done and being distributed. Posters are being finished tomorrow. The quilt is going to be displayed at Duebers, Canby Drug and Jim’s Market. Buttons are for sale for $5 and result in discounts for activities and other potential winnings when you purchase a button. Paul Anderson will be hanging a Coca-Cola sign at Jim’s that will advertise the Artic Blast weekend.

5)     Advertising Committee- Kelli and Cheryl presented the results from the first meeting held in December. A draft list of all the groups in the community and surrounding cities was created and assigned to committee members to contact about the upcoming activity consolidation effort.   Kelli presented the idea Barb presented on a quarterly newsletter. The group felt that the monthly calendar in the Canby News was sufficient. Ellie also suggested printing this calendar out and mailing to all Chamber members. Also, distribute to places in the community where people meet often-restaurants, city hall, etc.  Pat reminded the committee they are charged also with organizing advertising with the local radio and newspapers for events such as Artic Blast. Ellie is reviewing what to advertise now for Artic Blast with Terry Overlander.

 

New Business

 

6)     Future SpeakersFebruary – Artic Blast Wrap-up; March Heartland Eye Care– April -TBD – Jim Nichols-Wind Energy – align this event with Rotary and possibly open to the public as an evening event.

 

7)     Upcoming Ribbon Cuttings – Official Ribbon Cutting for Big Stone Therapies & their owners- Tues, Jan 17th at 4:00; Sunset Assisted Living – Jan 17th (after Big Stone Therapies; Other – Canby Bakery, Midway Café - TBD

 

8)     Guest Speakers-Karen Houtman-The Connection – Karen presented the history of the Connection, the current renovations they are doing, and common activities. The Connection is available for parties (e.g. child’s birthday) for a donation – typically $25.

 

 

9)      Next Meeting: Weds, February 8th, 2006 at noon at PK Egan’s.
