Canby Chamber of Commerce Meeting

February 8th – PK Egans

 

1)     Attendees: The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 12:00 pm on February 8th at PK Egans with the following board members present: Pat Stanley, Don Beman, Sabrina Stockman, Amy Newcomb, Derrick Ruether and Kelli Palmquist. Also present were Cheryl Ferguson, Nancy Salmon, Chris Grussing, Ellie Beman, Karen Houtman, Bonnie Longtin, Dr. JD Ries, Terry Overlander, Jessica Sik, and Erin Hoffman.

2)     Reports: Derrick called the meeting to order. Kelli sent the minutes to all active attendees on 1/12/06 for review. These minutes were also passed around to all attendees at this meeting.  Don presented the Treasurer report. Attendees approved both the Secretary and Treasurer reports.  Secretary’s report will continue to be e-mailed to all attendees on the e-mail distribution list one week prior to the meeting for approval, changes, etc. Anyone interested on being on this list must submit their e-mail address to Kelli Palmquist.

 

Old Business

3)     Outstanding Citizen/Hall of Fame/Chamber Annual Meeting– This will be held on Friday, March 31st at DeToys.

4)     Artic Blast Recap – Barb and other Chamber members reported very positive feedback on the Artic Blast activities in January. This feedback included: more attendance at the Polar Plunge this year, the quilt raffle was a big hit – selling approximately 470 tickets at $2 a ticket, storefront decorating contest went well-Duebers was the winner, the bowling alley reported a great turn-out and the funds raised at the Klondike Kate were split with the fire department.  Some ideas/changes discussed for next year include reviewing how buttons are sold and the benefits to buying a button, possible Cricket event at Parrot Bay, and events for Sunday evening.

 

New Business

 

5)     Attendance Issues/Dues Letters – These will be distributed in early March. Don will split these letters amongst the board members to hand deliver to Chamber business members. Each board member is encouraged to promote attendance/participation in the Chamber events and meetings. Pat suggested we have someone represent the Tech College at the Chamber meetings. Advertising committee will mention this when we call the college rep for upcoming activities.

6)     Activites/Events Committee- Ellie reported that they will be planning Hat Daze details at the next meeting on 2/23 at 5:00 pm at the City Hall. In addition, Sandra Snobl volunteered to assist with the parade committee. Ellie urged attendees to join this committee if possible. They are in need of more help!

7)     Advertising Committee – Committee members are wrapping up their calls to local groups to gather March activities for the March monthly calendar. Derrick brought up an idea of doing some advertising on the monthly calendar/flyer for open buildings for rent, etc. This will be discussed at the next Advertising committee meeting.  Activities for the March calendar are due to Ellie by Feb 24th.

8)     Donation –Upcoming Motivation Speaker– A motion was made to donate $150 to Bob Lenz, the motivation speaker coming to the school to present on Mon, 2/13. This is sponsored by the Canby Ministerial Association. The $150 is the amount left in the Chamber Donation budget for 2005. Nancy made a motion to approve this donation; Kelli Palmquist seconded the motion. All attendees approved with the exception of Pat Stanley. During the 2006 annual meeting or before, the board will meet to determine the donation policy going forward for the Chamber. This will ensure the donations made are aligned with the Chamber mission.

 

9)     Future SpeakersMarch – Annual Meeting (3/31/06) – April - Heartland Eye Care – May - TBD ; Nancy Salmon has volunteered to contact Chamber business members to invite them to be a speaker at a meeting in the future.

 

10) Upcoming Ribbon Cuttings – Antique Emporium, Canby Bakery, Midway Café – TBD. Derrick is contacting both Cheryl Irvin from Antique Emporium & Jeff Grengs at the Bakery to invite to next Chamber meeting.

 

11)  Next Meeting: Weds, March 31st , 2006 at DeToys (Also the ANNUAL MEETING)
