Canby Chamber of Commerce Board Meeting April 12th – PK Egans
1) Attendees: The Canby Chamber of Commerce met at 12:00 pm on April 12th at PK Egans with the following board members present: Laurie Driessen, Amy Newcomb, Derrick Ruether and Kelli Palmquist. Also present were Pat Stanley, Chris Grussing, Bonnie Longtin, and Bob Wandersee 2) Reports: Derrick called the meeting to order. Kelli sent the minutes from the March board meeting to all active attendees on 3/24 for review. These minutes were also passed around to all attendees at this meeting. Don was absent so we did not review the latest Treasurer report. Attendees approved the Secretary report. Old Business 3) Outstanding Citizen/Hall of Fame/Chamber Annual Meeting– This event was held on March 31st and was a success! 4) Advertising – Prairie Waters Bulletin – This bulletin is distributed every 2 years. Canby Chamber received a notice on the cost of the ads and ad options. Due to the lack of time in determining the size of the ad and finding local businesses to help sponsor the cost of the ad, the group agreed to postpone this advertising until the next issue in 2008. This was also not a planned part of the Chamber’s 2006 annual advertising budget. The Promotional Committee will contact the Prairie Waters rep to tell them to allow more time for the Chamber to choose an ad before the next issue. 5) Hat Daze Budget & Status – Pat reported on the latest Hat Daze Activity calendar. The Chamber decided not to sponsor the tractor pull this year both due to cost and participation. Derrick is contacting Lloyd Schrunk to tell him he can still hold this event but the event will not be sponsored by the Chamber. The next Activities Committee meeting will be held Thurs, 4/27 at the City Hall.
New Business
6) Attendance Issues – There was a lack of attendance this meeting. Derrick is contacting KLQP to broadcast our monthly meetings on the radio as Pat did in the past. He will continue to send e-mail reminders and there is a reminder in the paper. 7) Ribbon Cuttings – Jeff Grengs (Bakery) – is interested in holding a Ribbon Cutting. Derrick is contacting Jeff. 8) Donation –VFW Memorial Brochures (Bob Wandersee)– Bob asked for a $50 donation towards the cost of publishing these brochures. The board and attendees declined the donation per the changes installed at the March Annual Chamber meeting to our Donation Guidelines. Since the VFW asks for donations from dues paying Chamber members, this is considered “Double dipping” and that is not in alignment with our mission statement or contribution guidelines.
9) Canby Firehall Steak Fry (April 22nd) – Derrick will be presenting the check to the Canby Firehall from the Firehalls portion of the contributions earned during the Klondike Kate contest in Jan, 2006 during Artic Blast weekend.
10) Future Speakers –April - Heartland Eye Care – Dr. Ries did not attend the meeting. Nancy is following up with him. May - TBD; Nancy Salmon is the contact for future speakers.
