Canby Chamber of Commerce Meeting Annual Meeting January 16, 2008

Attendees: Bonnie Longtin,
Laurie Driessen, Don Beman, Ellie Beman, Terry Overlander, Eldeen
Baer, Pat Stanley, Katie Delaney, Rebecca Weber, and Karen Houtman.

Reports: Laurie
called the meeting to order.
The secretary’s report was passed out to all attendees.
Karen made a motion to approve and Katie seconded; all
approved. Don handed out
the treasurer’s report.
He noted that the ending balance did not correctly read because of a
check he just rec’d in the mail dated December 21, 2007.
Pat made a motion to approve, Katie seconded; all approved. Old
Business

Marketing Committee:
Katie passed around the Marketing Committee 2007 Annual Report.
Ellie gave the summary.
This is a new committee that has accomplished a lot in the
last year. Some of the
past actions include; “your chamber at work” member letter, chamber
hospitality night, fix-it-up fund, member surveys, and the
advertising plan. The
committee voted to do 2 fix ups this spring.
Businesses drawn were 1) High Prairie Sporting Clays, 2)
Canby Vet, 3)

Activities Committee:
Ellie handed out the Activities Report for 2007.
a.
Artic Blast:
Buttons will be sold and
they are good for $1 off events and the Chili Feed cook off.
Klondike Kate will not be held this year rather a dance
contest (big band sound) at the high school Saturday night.
Performing is Minneota Jazz Band.
Other activities include artic plunge, fish tourney, and
quilt show. In addition
there will be a French toast breakfast at the Connection on Sunday
morning.
b.
Hat Daze: A motion
was made by Ellie to hold Hat Daze on the third weekend of June.
Karen seconded the motion.
Motion approved.
Pat suggested meeting with area chambers to plan a calendar of
events. A concern this
year is Father’s day.
Laurie heard that people were disappointed that businesses were open
later in the day to accommodate visitors from out of town.
c.
Crazy Daze:
Discussion was held to have
businesses open later in the day and add a car cruise/Harleys.
d.
Christmas Preview:
The Santa pictures were a hit and it brought in a lot of people to
the Connection that normally would not stop.
The bowling was a bomb but the movies went well. New

New location of meetings:
Ellie suggested to meet at DeToy’s for the new meetings
effective February 20, 2008.
If Tom was not going to be able to accommodate the location
request, our next proposal would be the 6) Eldeen Baer handed out Canby Depot information about Helga Estby’s story. Katherine Linstrom/Helga will be in Canby starting on June 9, 2008 and will be able to visit with people throughout the month and stay for Hat Daze. 7) A motion was made by Karen to approve the board members: Karen Houtman, Ellie Beman, Minnesota West (Katie and Becky), Bonnie Longtin, and Don Beman. Elllie seconded the motion; all approved. Discussion was made to split Minnesota West so that there would be two members. Confirmation will be made at the next meeting. Another motion was made by Karen to move to approach the following potential members: Ron Singsaas, Jackie Kriuzer, Paula Sievers – Kontz, and Brian McKeen. 8) Adjournment: Motion by Rebecca, seconded by Katie; motion approved. 9) Next Meeting is Wednesday, February 16, 2008 at noon.
