Under New Business regarding meeting locations, Karen requested that be changed to ‘Third Wednesday’ rather than ‘Third Thursday’. 4)      Artic Blast Report:  Ellie reported her frustrations with the scheduling conflict between Artic Blast and High School Wrestling. Next year we need to be mindful of this conflict. Pat stated he would like Minnesota West Students & Staff be more involved in this event. Perhaps holding an event at the campus, or asking for student involvement. Bonnie reported on the success of the Quilt Show. She mentioned charging a minimal fee for the event next year because some exhibitors would have liked to contribute this year. Bonnie will be in charge of the event again next year. Karen reported the Connection made about $50 from coffee and donuts at the plunge. The French Toast breakfast was a hit, generating $800 for the Connection.

5)      Chamber Recognition Supper:

Date: Friday, March 28th (Back up date: Friday, April 4th)

Time: 6:30pm -Social Hour   7pm- Meal

Location: DeToy’s Family Restaurant

In the absence of a specific committee for this event, the Board members made the following plans for this Chamber event:

The date was selected for the Annual Chamber Recognition Supper for Friday, March 28th. Pat mentioned that might be the night of the Sportsman’s Club event. If that is the case, the back-up date for the Chamber Supper is Friday, April 4th. Pat will check with the Sportsman’s club and get back to the group ASAP.  The time was set for a 6:30 Social Hour and 7:00pm Meal. There was discussion concerning the location of this year’s event following which,  DeToy’s was selected as the location. Tom DeToy confirmed the reservation and spoke with the members regarding the meal. Pat made a motion to serve a full Roast Beef dinner (including beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, salad, and dinner roll) for approximately $9.50 plus tax and 15% gratuity/plate. Bonnie seconded that motion; motion was approved. It was also decided that the there will be a charge of $10/person for a ticket to the event. Tickets must be purchased one week prior to the event from the Chamber Office.  The Chamber will pick up any additional charges from the meal. Karen and Ellie both felt there is no need for the Chamber to make money on this event. Ellie suggested hiring Chris Grussing to decorate DeToy’s for the event. Ellie will talk with her to negotiate a budget. Don made a motion that the Chamber pay no more than $400 to hire Chris and to also pay for some decorations that could maybe be given out as door prizes.  Pat seconded this motion; motion was approved.  Katie volunteered to generate the event flyers and also the certificates. Don volunteered to personally contact Sanford, REM, Canby HS, DAC, Fire Dept., Ambulance, and the Farmers Coop and invite them to complete the nomination forms if desired. Katie will make that contact with Minnesota West. Karen felt the Marketing Committee could handle getting the word out to the rest of the community. Ellie reported Loren Hacker volunteered to emcee the event. Don will ask him if he would like to put together the program as well. Katie also said she could if need be. Pat suggested the Chamber advertise this event on both Channel 8 and also the electronic sign at the High School. Karen suggested that a special committee be put in place for this event next year.

6)      Date for Board Work Session: Karen requested a Chamber Board Meeting to work on both the Budget and Dues Structure. That meeting is set for Thursday, March 6th at 5:30pm @ the Connection. Karen will provide snacks.

7)      New Board Members:  Ellie spoke with both Ron Singsaas and Jackie Kriuzer about being on the Chamber Board. They both declined. JoAnn Kruse also expressed some interest, but said she wouldn’t be able to make it to many meetings. Danielle from A New Leaf seemed somewhat interested. Karen will speak with her again. Ellie will ask Sally at Sanford for a representative from the Hospital.
